"Battle of the
Badges"
The annual softball tournament between the Detroit Lakes Fire
Department and the Detroit Lakes Police Department was held on August
27th, 2008 in Snappy Park. It was a cloudy day with the chance of rain
hanging over our heads. The Fire Department tried to intimidate us with
some 'colorful' t-shirts worn by their members. The game was very close. DLFD had some good
players and there was some extraordinary plays on both teams.. but in
the end, DLPD prevailed yet again - upholding its champion status from
last year.
It was the bottom of the 7th and we won 11 to
10.
Thanks to everyone who participated and made this such a fun event
for everyone. Refreshments, snacks, and burgers were all available at
the Fire Hall afterwards and it was a great time to bring family and
friends.
For at least one day - we could forget about the dangers and stress
of these careers and focus on a team-spirit and helping each other out
regardless of rank. Everyone played a part in the victory and it was a
true display of teamwork.

Everyone from the DLPD and DLFD together: Great job guys!!
Our trophy once again sits in the lobby of the Police Department not
so much a reminder of who won but..
"The way a team plays as
a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of
individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club
won't be worth a dime." - Babe Ruth |
