Tornado and Severe Storms damage the Lakes Region
On June 17th, 2010 - a number of powerful thunderstorms swept through the region. While Detroit Lakes was spared the worst of it, our neighbors around us suffered some serious damage and the City of Wadena took the brunt of the storm. Some houses and buildings were destroyed and some serious injuries were reported but no fatalities. Other Tornado and severe weather decimated other areas of the state in one of the worst outbreaks in recent history.

Several emergency service workers and law enforcement from surrounding areas - including many Detroit Lakes Police Officers - assisted with the disaster and helped keep Wadena safe and secure. Great job to everyone involved for helping our neighbors.

He is the 17th Officer to die in the line of duty in Minnesota since 2000 with the memories of last fall's shooting of North Saint Paul Officer,
Richard Crittenden, and Mahnomen Deputy Sheriff, Chris Dewey
still all too fresh in our minds.
