Our mission statement calls for the Detroit Lakes Area Community Foundation to assist in the funding of activities that promote quality cultural, educational, civic, wellness, environmental and economic development programs in the Detroit Lakes community, involving all age groups, urban and rural areas, men and women, and the disadvantaged.

The Detroit Lakes Community Foundation Offers

Continuity. Gifts can continue to provide community support over a period of years.
Simplicity. One gift may benefit numerous organizations or activities.
Perpetuity. A fund may be established in the name a family, friend, or organization with assurance that the proceeds will benefit the community well beyond the donor's lifetime.
Security. A well established, ongoing foundation using professional investment counselors assures sound management of gifts.
Tax Benefits. Donations are deductible to the extent allowed by Internal Revenue Service codes.

How Does It Work?

The Foundation operates under the direction of an Advisory Committee comprised of five individuals to be representative of the community. The Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce, the City of Detroit Lakes, the Detroit Lakes Jaycees and United Way each nominate a member to serve on the Advisory Committee for the Foundation. A fifth member-at-large is chosen by the other four members.

Their responsibility is to:

Monitor the management of the Foundation funds to ensure maximum return for community needs;
Distribute available funds to eligible organizations through a grant process;
Inform the community of work of the Foundation in order to strengthen public understanding and support;
Serve the community by working with grant seekers and donors;
Seek funds for the on-going work of the Foundation.

You can help by contributing in any number of ways to the Detroit Lakes Area Community Foundation.

Outright Donations can include: cash gifts, real estate, securities, personal property.
Deferred Gifts can include: bequests, life insurance, trusts with charitable provisions.
Special Purpose Gifts may include: a memorial in honor of a deceased person, a gift to honor a living person, a gift to commemorate a special occasion.
